SOFT SCULPTURES

Two sculptures were designed at the Byrdcliffe Guild art colony during August 2017. During the artist in residency the sculptures inspired by the surrounding environment. Looking at the root systems of upturned trees, mushrooms, and the unique ghost flower found in the area. The forms defined pockets of space and extended limbs.

Different types of fabric were used to express tactile zones. Pockets of interest and comfort. Different areas attract to detract attention to the form. All in white the viewer is meant to focus on texture and form.

Computer programs were to design and analyze the complex forms and extract a set of patterns that could be sewn back together into the forms.
