TRANSFORMABLE TENSEGRITY

The design for more transformable architecture is inevitable. As human needs are changing faster and faster building life spans are becoming short. The needs for buildings to be more transformable and adaptable is in high demand. Lightweight textile structures offer the ability for architecture to be more temporary. They are lighter impact on green house emissions and are able to easily adapt. Using textiles as part of the structural system of a built object is possible with tensegrity. The models designed here are made with linear actuated structs which can change length adjusting the tension in the textile. As the length of the struts is expanded the structure is deployed. The striped knit material is used to express the tension and directionality of the stress and strain on the material as it is deployed.
