Helix Tower

The design for a knit tensegrity tower with bending active structural elements that helix around a series of knit textiles. The design explores the expression of tension through breaking the material into smaller parts which are stretched as an expression of forces. The design was studied through grasshopper for rhino and kangaroo. The simulation of the design showed how the textile might respond. While several small scale studies and mockup were made before the final construction. The final piece was built while as a resident at Arts Letter and Number in 2021. The tower is over 10ft tall and extremely light weight. With the prefabricated textile and fasteners the design is deployed very quickly in a matter of less than 30 minutes.

Completed as a resident at Arts Letters and Numbers
